What is lipidomics

Lipidomics is the large-scale study of pathways and networks of cellular lipids in biological systems and can provide insight and knowledge into specific roles and mechanisms of lipid molecular species in both health and disease. Lipidomics has emerged as an important tool in understanding lipid-associated disorders. such as diabetes, obesity, Altzheimer's disease and various types of cancer

The word "lipidome" is used to describe the complete lipid profile within a cell, tissue or organism and is a subset of the "metabolome" which also include three other major classes of biological molecules: proteins/amino acids, sugars and nucleic acids.

Types of lipids and analytical services

In biology, lipids are defined as hydrophobic or amphiphilic molecules and constitutes a large diverse group of molecules responsible for numerous biological functions including membrane structures, energy storage, signal transduction and regulation of gene expression. In addition, lipids have several applications in cosmetic and food industry.

Vitas can offer a range of analytical services related to lipid analysis. Our services includes the whole workflow from sample preparation, analytical measurements to the evaluation of raw data. We can also offer both targeted and untargeted lipidomic approaches using state of the art technology. The analytical services related to lipids can be divided into following sections:

GMP analytical services

Vitas can offer a GMP analytical service for release analysis to clinical studies of lipids and for the release to the European or US market. Make a request for new assays and/or projects by contacting our expert lipidomics team and explore how our various lipidomic services can be of assistance.
